Biography

Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Greg Burton is a seasoned military professional with over 40 years of distinguished service. His career began in 1975 and evolved through various roles in the Canadian and British armies, including leadership positions in The Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada, The Light Infantry (UK), and Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. Burton is a veteran with extensive experience in international deployments, peacekeeping missions, and strategic military operations in locations such as Cyprus, Northern Ireland, Germany, and the former Yugoslavia.​He also has considerable experience in domestic operations across the Arctic.

Burton holds a Bachelor’s degree in Military Arts and Sciences and a Master’s in Defence Studies. He is also a Canadian Army Technical Staff Programme graduate and the Canadian Forces College. With a broad technical background in requirements development, defence procurement, project management, and fleet sustainment, he served in the Canadian Army Headquarters for 15 years. During this time, he was the Canadian Head of Delegation to the NATO Topical Group for Soldier System Interoperability, directed key simulation system projects- including the successful delivery of the Canadian Manoeuvre Training Centre in Wainwright, Alberta- and coordinated the fast-track procurement of combat and survivability equipment for the war in Afghanistan. The pinnacle of his military career was coordinating the ongoing development of the Army and Canadian Armed Forces equipment programmes.

Retiring from the military in 2015, Burton joined the defence industry as Senior Director of Strategic Business Development at DEW Engineering and Development. Over the nine years that followed, he focused on expanding domestic and international business prospects, enhancing brand awareness, and advising on procurement and teaming opportunities. He understands the critical importance of collaboration in Business-to-Business (B2B) and Business-to-Government (B2G) contexts and has developed a broad network in these areas.
