MILLBROOK, NOVA SCOTIA – Samuel Associates and Millbrook First Nation have jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which formalizes their ability to work together on business and economic development opportunities that are mutually beneficial to the Millbrook First Nation Community and Samuel Associates’ clients.

Today’s announcement is a notable milestone for both Millbrook and Samuel, as both organizations have been actively pursuing economic development opportunities with the private sector and the federal government.

The new MOU will enable Samuel Associates to introduce clients and potential clients to Millbrook First Nation for the purpose of exploring a direct business relationship or joint texture with Millbrook First Nation. In turn, Millbrook will be able to access more business opportunities from across Canada to maximize economic benefits for its Community members. It is anticipated that areas of focus will include such sectors as defence and security, aerospace, marine, and manufacturing.

Chief Bob Gloade of Millbrook First Nation declared, “Millbrook has a strategy of attracting new business to our Community in order to enhance economic opportunities for our members. We are pleased to work with Samuel Associates on this important partnership.”

Goran Pesic, CEO of Samuel Associates, said, “We’re honoured and pleased to be a partner with Millbrook First Nation on this innovative new relationship.”

James Stevens, Director Commercial Operations Millbrook, added, “The Millbrook Community looks forward to working with the Samuel Team to convert this new Agreement into lasting benefits.”

Hon. Jamie Baillie, Managing Director Atlantic Canada for Samuel Associates, concluded, “We are excited by the potential value this MOU brings to the Millbrook First Nation Community and our clients.”

The Agreement reflects Millbrook and Samuel’s commitment to advancing new commercial initiatives in an era where genuine partnerships with Indigenous communities and Canadian businesses are needed to release the full potential of today’s and tomorrow’s economy.

As of December 2021, the Government of Canada has also begun implementing a mandatory procurement requirement for federal departments and agencies to ensure that a minimum of 5% of the total value of contracts are held by Indigenous businesses. This new requirement will be phased in over three years with full implementation expected by 2024.
